    Peer Supervision for the Helping Professional

    Traditionally, practitioners from the helping professions are required to receive clinical supervision form a senior practitioner/supervisor as part of their professional development.  However, as career practice in much of the Asia Pacific region is still in its early stages of development, there are currently very few qualified career supervisors within the community.  Until this changes, a highly effective alternative is for career practitioners to engage in peer supervision as part of their professional development.  This approach harnesses the power of social learning (Bandura, 1971) which proposes that new behaviors can be acquired by observing and emulating others.  Dr. Timothy Hsi will explain the process of peer supervision and the benefit for organizations.

    Dr. Timothy Hsi is the Founding President of the Career Development Association of Singapore (CDAS) and founder of Abundanz Consulting Pte Ltd.  He was instrumental in the development of a whole new generation of career practitioners in Singapore from 2015.  Dr. Tim currently teaches career counseling and psychotherapy at the Australian College of Applied Psychology and travels regularly across Asia, educating and training individuals to be career practitioners.

    Remote Career Coaching: A Facilitated Discussion

    A few years ago, we worried about the ethics of meeting with clients using online technology like Zoom.  During the pandemic most of us were forced into remote coaching/counseling, and we discovered that online meetings allow us to use our time more efficiently. Now is a good time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of this type of technology in career coaching/counseling.  Rich Feller, one of the developers of Conversations Matter - a highly effective use of this type of technology, will lead this discussion. 

    Note: This is not a lecture.  This is a discussion and will make extensive use of breakout rooms.  You are not required to turn on your camera, but we do expect you to share your thoughts.  We ask that each attendee be prepared to share your thoughts and ideas with other attendees. 


    Rich Feller, PhD, had a long career as a professor at Colorado State University.  He is also a licensed professional counselor, certified coach, futurist, thought leader, international keynote speaker, consultant, and author.  He is a Past President of National Career Development Association and winner of its Eminent Career Award. He is a chief advisor to YouScience (a career assessment company), co-owner of One Life Tools (publisher of Conversations Matter), and provides training for career coaches using the Knowdell cardsorts, among many other activities.

    The Use of Metaphors in Career Development

    The Journey of Becoming a Self-Sustained Career Center by Employer Partnership

    The Career Service of Politecnico di Milano, one of Europe’s top leading public universities for Engineering, Architecture and Design, has been active for about 15 years and it has grown from a team of 5 to a team 19 and from serving 1,000 to over 10,000 students every year, thanks to a business model based on fee-based partnerships with employers. In my webinar I will share the journey that has led the Career Service to become free from the uncertainty of central budget, bringing insights that will surely help you see how this can apply to your context as well.

    Francesca Saracino is Head of the Career Service office at Politecnico di Milano, one of Europe’s top leading universities for technical studies. Being a native American-Italian bilingual and having obtained a Master degree in Languages and Cultural Mediation, she sees how students and employers need help in understanding each other because they speak different languages. The Career Service she manages is entirely self-financed and serves 45,000 students with 19 people in staff. Since 2018, she also manages the first Diversity & Inclusion Program of the University, called POP (Pari Opportunità Politecniche). Previously, she worked as an English language teacher and translator.  Francesca is also a lindy-hop dancer, yoga learner, occasional singer and concert addict.

Dr. Dey will provide an overview of the changing nature and emerging trends that are shaping the future of career services in higher education and explain how career services of the future will differ from those of the past.

    Dr. Farouk Dey, Vice Provost for Integrative Learning and Life Design at Johns Hopkins University, leads programs and services that bridge curricular and experiential learning with life aspirations for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and alumni across the university’s schools and divisions. He works with education and industry leaders at Johns Hopkins University to launch a new vision of equitable access to life purpose for all students regardless of background or social capital using principles of integrative learning and life design. Dr. Dey has held senior leadership and board roles at Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Florida, the National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE), the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), and various startups and non-profit organizations. A native of Algeria, Dr. Dey was named one of LinkedIn’s Top Ten Voices in Education and is recognized in higher education circles for his thought-provoking writings, engaging speaking, and transformational leadership.
