Ethical Dilemmas and the APCDA Ethical Guidelines

    By Dr. Vandana Gambhir Chopra
    Recorded on Jan 21, 2021

We face ethical dilemmas daily in our work.  Some situations are so familiar that we respond base on habit.  Others are so complex that we may avoid any response. In a recent poll, more than half of career practitioners described tension between supporting and challenging clients' goals as their most common ethical dilemma.  In all cases, comparing APCDA’s Ethical Guidelines to common ethical dilemmas prepares us to respond appropriately.  This webinar will include a review of parts of the Guidelines plus breaking into small groups to discuss ways of handling common ethical dilemmas.   Please consider submitting examples of ethical dilemmas from your own practice to the presenter.

Remote Career Coaching: A Facilitated Discussion

    by Rich Feller, PhD
    Recorded on Feb 9, 2023

A few years ago, we worried about the ethics of meeting with clients using online technology like Zoom.  During the pandemic most of us were forced into remote coaching/counseling, and we discovered that online meetings allow us to use our time more efficiently. Now is a good time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of this type of technology in career coaching/counseling.  Rich Feller, one of the developers of Conversations Matter - a highly effective use of this type of technology, will lead this discussion.

Note: This is not a lecture.  This is a discussion and will make extensive use of breakout rooms.  You are not required to turn on your camera, but we do expect you to share your thoughts.  We ask that each attendee be prepared to share your thoughts and ideas with other attendees.

Rich Feller, PhD, had a long career as a professor at Colorado State University.  He is also a licensed professional counselor, certified coach, futurist, thought leader, international keynote speaker, consultant, and author.  He is a Past President of National Career Development Association and winner of its Eminent Career Award. He is a chief advisor to YouScience (a career assessment company), co-owner of One Life Tools (publisher of Conversations Matter), and provides training for career coaches using the Knowdell cardsorts, among many other activities.

For decades we’ve been talking about the global economy.  Technology has literally brought the world into the palm of our hand.  But we come from different countries and cultures.  Are we really that similar in our values or are there significant differences in what we believe is important?  What role does multiculturalism play in career development if you live and work in a homogenous society?

Dr. David M. Reile, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, Certified Career Counselor, with over 20 years of education and experience in career planning and psychological consultation. Dr. Reile has been a faculty associate in various counseling master’s programs at The University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and Loyola University. Dr. Reile is a founding member of the India Career Development Association (ICDA), as well as an invited guest speaker and a member of the ICDA 2013 Conference Committee.
